This was Tom Clancy's inspiration

If you've read Tom Clancy's "The Hunt for Red October," you might have noticed the dedication: "To John Ball, who started it all." Who the heck is John Ball, and what did he start?
"The First Team" is an inspiring book, indeed. It covers the Cold War nightmare of the U.S. being conquered by the Russians, without a shot fired. In a country thoroughly dispirited by such a failure of confidence, how can the invaders be thrown out? John Ball tells us about the First Team, a group of patriots put together by those who saw the debacle coming. The steps to eventual success are exciting, even breathtaking, and it involves stealing a nuclear...well, I won't spoil the read for you. You can probably find this on ebay or at a used book store. It's not in print. More's the pity, because it carries a warning for all of us every day.
