About the Author
John de Frayssinet's interest in model railways began when he was a small child. He discovered the narrow-gauge Talyllyn Railway before it went into preservation and this began a life-long interest in 'wayward' railways. John has always striven to create a 'railway in landscape' rather than just a train set. He built his first scenic diorama in 1959 and, apart from building models for clients, he has built the award-winning County Gate narrow gauge diorama followed by Bratton Fleming Snow Scene and his new diorama, Cliffhanger.� John has written extensively for yachting, aviation and model railway magazines and actively campaigns for good disabled access at model railway exhibitions.

I have know of this modeller for many years and admired especially his scenery work. An excellent book that goes through not just the details but the thought process. Well laid out and great pictures. Definitely recommend.

Very interesting

A few places where the conversion to Kindle wasn't quite right, and text was repeated or maybe missing a couple of times. Good information though, and the photos were very good. I got a lot of good ideas, especially about water and trees. I will be trying some of these techniques.

To me this books encapsulates the best awesome modelling I see coming out of the UK. John has produced a couple of award winning layouts and he shares his experiences and photos in this book, how put visual lines in your layout/ composition, scaling and depth perspective, how to construct things and in what order and how landscapes, terrains, topography, vegetation, .. work. A very good book if you're interested in producing beautiful, scenic layouts or dioramas.

Fantastic Memoir

When I was 11 years old and wasting hours playing KARATEKA on my friend's Apple IIe, I had no idea that a video game could have an author. Movies? Sure. Books? Of course. George Lucas made movies, Stephen King wrote novels, and, well... video games just sort of happened, right? How wrong I was. Jordan Mechner's new book, drawn from his personal journals from the late '80s/early '90s, chronicles the development of his classic PRINCE OF PERSIA, a landmark in the world of video games. Starting with his initial spark of an idea in the wake of KARATEKA's success, Mechner depicts POP's slow birthing process as well as his clashes with the corporate culture of software development and his dalliances with Hollywood as he attempted to simultaneously jumpstart his career as a screenwriter. The book is a fascinating look back at the realm of personal computing and gaming in the Reagan era; anybody who grew up in that time will probably get a warm fuzzy feeling at the mere mention of the original Mac, the Commodore Amiga, the Atari, the NES. But this isn't a nostalgia piece: along the way, we also get Mechner's intriguing theories on story as they apply to video games, and the journal entries provide an illuminating look at his solutions to problems that popped up as he crafted the narrative and game mechanics of PRINCE OF PERSIA. All in all, this is a must-read for old school video game aficionados, current game developers and anybody in a creative profession who's looking for a little inspiration.

Inspiring

This is a great book. If you are in the least interested in how video games are made you should buy this. This book relates the journey of the creator from the initial conception of Prince of Persia all the way to the sequel (PoP 2). You can see the self-doubts that the author has and the frustration when things don't go right. You can also share his joy when the game is a success.

Something that really amazed me was realizing that Prince of Persia was the work of one person! Just one person with a vision and a lot of work. Very motivating for indy game developers.

A story, a struggle, a fight, a personal behind The Greatest Game of All Time.

This book is great enough for me to write a review, after not reviewing anything in Amazon in years.

It tells a story. A real story behind A Greatest Game of All Time. This is not a 'success story' as we can easily find in a lot of creation/innovation myth. It's not a story of Prince of Persia creation, but a story of Jordan's life as he was creating Prince of Persia. It reveals everything, struggles, supports, wresting, workarounds, conflicts, dilemmas.

I had long for a book like this, a "real" story behind a mega-successful project. Read it cover-to-cover in practically one sit. Can't put it down. A good reading day spent and it brought back a will to work on my next software project.

Highly recommended, without any reservation.

I gave this to my daughter, who asked for it at Christmas. I asked her for a review, and she said:
"It spent a lot of time reviewing statistics about girls in situations (single parent families, etc.) that doesn't apply to me. Mainly told how much danger girls were in from society. But I was looking for something different. It wasn't nearly as helpful as the 'Bringing up Boys' Book' for my situation. "

Not the basis for the new TV show of the same name but a fun read nonetheless

I knew this book wasn't the basis of the new television show by the same name before I started reading it but the synopsis sounded interesting so I thought I'd give it a try.

I watched the first show of the new ABC television series last week starring Kiefer Sutherland and loved it so I went searching on Amazon to see if it was perhaps based on an existing book. No such luck but I did find this book.

The TV show is character based (how could it not be starring Sutherland) while this story is based more on the mechanics and "what ifs" of some disaster happening while most of the country's leadership is gathered in one place. And then it focuses on the hunt for the terrorists that did the dirty deed.

I enjoyed this book although at times it seemed implausible but then that's why I read fiction. If I want truly impossible, I watch the evening news or watch the presidential debates.

This was an enjoyable quick read with enough twists and turns to hold my interest and just enough character development to care about what happened to at least some of the characters.

Evan as a giant

This book is about a boy named Evan and his friend, Andy. Evan has to babysit his annoying cousin, Kirmit. Kirmit looks like a white mouse with glasses. Kirmit is always getting Evan in trouble with his experiments. Then Evan and Andy decide to get revenge on Kirmit. They decide to put monster blood in one of Kirmit's experiments. Then, somehow, Evan grows into a giant (two stories tall).
The thing I love about this book is the troubles Evan faces as a giant. It is full of excitement! You never know what will happen next. Discover what happens to a two story tall giant when you read this book.

Monster Blood III

The book Goosebumps: Monster Blood 3 is a 126 page book and every page of the book is thrilling. It is a great book for everybody. It's one of my favorite books.

This book is about two boys and a girl named Andy. The older boy's name is Evan and the younger boy's name is Kermit. Evan and Andy are best friends, and Kermit is Evan's little cousin. Evan is Kermit's baby sitter after school and on weekends. He can't stand baby sitting his genius cousin. Just when Andy and Evan were ready to give Kermit pay back for his rotten tricks some thing went terribly wrong. That's all I'll tell you. You'll have to read the book to see what happens next.

If you read this book I guarantee that you'll like it. I give this book 5 stars. I like this book because it has no confusing part so I can under stand every word.

You will like this book from the first word to the last. You will not want to put this book down.

Better than the 2nd thats for sure! But you know what they say the first one is the best of them all. Summary:
Evan can't stand baby-sitting his not-so genius cousin,Kermit.Kermit refuses do to anything not even play!All he wants to do is mix things in his little lab in the basement and play pratical jokes on Evan and Andy.But Andy and Evan has something to get him back. And Andy has just the thing............MONSTER BLOOD!!!!

A Must Read for All of Us Living in 2017.

This is an addition to the list of books I would recommend to anybody telling them it is a must read. In these confusing times, this book gives clarity and a way forward. Stories about the U.S. Army and Roman Catholic nuns could only coexist in a book like this. I talked to my neighbors at lunch today about the book and lent them my copy (I know where to find them and the book!).
